Christmas Eating

With Christmas just around the corner no doubt you’ll find yourself going to parties, enjoying ‘nibbles’ and eating out more than usual. No wonder the average person gains between 1-5lbs (1-2.5kg) over the festive period! With this in mind we thought we’d share some of our top tips to keep your weight in check during this indulgent time of year.

1. Follow the 80:20 rule.

This is our philosophy at NutriNosh, which allows you to live your life with a healthy balance. Being good 80% of the time means that you can treat yourself 20% of the time. For example, if you know you are going to a party at the weekend, why not be super mindful about what you’re eating during the week? This means that at the party you can relax the rules somewhat.

2. Don’t turn up hungry!

Have a small healthy snack before you leave home so that you make choices with your head and not your grumbling stomach. A piece of fruit and yoghurt or some veggie sticks and hummus all contain protein and fibre – helping to fill you up.

3. Mindful nibbling

Before piling your plate full of food from the buffet, take time to review what is on offer. There will always be some healthier options that you can fill yourself up on. In a buffet situation using a smaller plate will help you control your portions and hopefully you won’t have that ‘my eyes were bigger than my stomach’ moment!

4. Remember, alcohol has calories too!

Why not alternate your alcoholic drink with a non-alcoholic one? If you choose to have fizzy mixers, remember to go for diet or sugar free versions. Or even better, why not offer to drive and don’t drink alcohol at all!

5. The day after, get yourself back on track!

Don't feel guilty, as one or two days of overeating will not make you fat. It's important not to let your food choices dictate the rest of your day or week so get yourself back on track as soon as you can.
